NASCAR
Silly Season
|
| 2007 will promise a handful of
new drivers and mixed up teams that no doubt will result in some
competitive racing and exciting rivalries.
Here's
the latest from our buds over at Jayski's
|
| |
| Casey Mears
/ 25 to 5 - Mears moves over from the
#25 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy, with Dale Jr. and Tony Jr. going to
the #25 team using the #88. |
| |
| Mark
Martin / 01 to 8 - Martin and Aric
Almirola will share duties in the #8 with Martin running 24-26 races
and Almirola the remainder, U.S. Army and crew moves over as the
sponsor from the #01. |
| |
|
Kyle
Busch / 5 to 18 -
M&M's to be the new sponsor. Kyle
Busch named the driver on August 14, 2007, signed thru 2010. JGR
will switch from Chevy to Toyota in 2008. Interstate Batteries will
return in 2008 for six races. |
| |
|
David Reutimann / 00 to 44
- McDowell will get the #00
ride after Reutimann heads to the #44 when Dale Jarrett retires.
Jarrett will also run the All-Star race in the #44 at LMS. |
| |
|
Ken Schrader / 21 to 49 -
Qtrax.com will be the sponsor for the
Bud Shootout. The team is using a diffferent sponsor concept called
Diamond Driven where they sell logo's for a smaller price. Schrader
is scheduled to run the full season with the team. |
| |
|
Scott Riggs / 70 to 66 -
Riggs moves to the #66 from the #70
and Barker and crew move with him. Hearing that State Water Heaters
will be the sponsor for 15 races or so. |
| |
| Jeremy
Mayfield / 36 to 70 - Mayfield moves
to the #70 from the #66 and Slog and crew move with him. |
| |
| Joe
Nemechek / 13 to 78 - Nemechek will be
back full time in 2008 and is signed thru 2010. The team will have
Hendrick engines after closing its own engine shop. |
|
|
|
Dale Earnhardt Jr. / 8 to 88
- Yates agrees to sell #88 to
Hendrick, so the team will change from #25 to #88 for 2008. Looks
like the trademark thing was a smokescreen. Mears goes over to the
#5 car, with Dale Jr. and Tony Jr. come over from the DEI #8 team.
Former #25 Crew chief Darian Grubb will move to more of a management
role. Looks like Mountain Dew and Amp will be the co-primary
sponsors to be announced later in Sept. |
|
|
|
J.J.
Yeley / 18 to 96 -
HOF will move to Toyota and continue
to get support from Joe Gibbs Racing. Yeley will be the new driver
in 2008 with Raines looking elsewhere. Plans to starts a 2nd team in
2008 with Brad Coleman driving up to 7 races and go full time in
2009.
